- Atanu2
- (a bengali fisher folk style tune inspired by Atanu.) It is the first composition of mine. One can smell the bengali conservative feel, interspersed with a bit of take off at a tangent..also a bengali characteristic.... - Sol_fa3
- (my composition based on the 30s music of black america.) I had hoped that this would be the greeting theme as soon as one logs onto Solultions BBS, New Delhi, India. But it is not technically feasible now... later perhaps ;) - Woogie
- (a cross between many songs by Joplin and Ella Fitzgerald) I hope that the mood of the period, 1930s, comes out. - Pukarta
- (the evergreen melody of OP Nayyar of 1963 vintage) All the little titbits have been put in without much extra flourish. So this midi file comes out as a neat packet. - Ajeeb
- popular 'ajeeb daastaan hai yey' from 'Dil AA Preet Parayee'. Another 1960 model swinger. One of the first songs i accompanied on the guitar when 'mani' played the harmonica on college day (Maharaja's College, Cochin, -1961) - Janagana.mid is the correct version of our national anthem.
Lyrics: Tagore.
Tune: Capt Ram Singh/Tagore.
Orchestration: Doc Opeh !
Recently there was a claim by the erstwhile INA officer Capt Ram Singh that he put the words to tune. Of course, this scandalised bengalee high brow. The rest of the country watched the debate in dailies with curious equanimity.
Some stated snidely that gorkhas of Nepal know no music. This had the connotation of being a racial slur.
People have yet to know that Louis Banks, the jazz musician par excellence is actually Damroo Bahadoor, a Gorkha from Nepal.
- Varuna
- an original composition for piano for Varun-Unata. Incidentally, Varun Taneja loaned me the SoundRack card and Unata did the instigation by showing me how to use the software for composing. - Kisiki
'Kisiki mushkurahaton pe ho nisaar' is another swinging number sung on the screen for Raj Kapoor by Mukesh from the film Anari. Another 60s number. As the saying goes, "Raj Kapoor does best when others make the movie and he is made to act". Now you would say did the best. - Lakhon
- the most popular hit of the 60s, again, by Nayyar saab is a real swinger and party song. the real hit with the people of North East. - Sunday
This was a real hit of the 60s, 'never on a sunday'.. '...u can kissme on a monday, a tuesday a wednesday is...
thursday a friday and saturday is...best...
but never never on a sunday, the one day i need a little rest.'

- Amit - made for Amit Bahree. Listen carefully for the Taiko Drum representing the heavy footsteps...inspired by his visit one night to my home.
- Woogie is another jazz era tune. those familiar with the idiom will find this tune exciting...
Its an original. - Humdono is one of the sweetest songs from Dev Anand starrer Hum Dono, 'mein zindagi ke saath nibhata chala gaya..' A 1960 vintage tune.
The music is by Jaidev, who also tuned the greatest bhajan..'Allah Tero Naam' - The Entertainer is one of the greatest songs ever composed. It was played in the bordellos of south Mississipi in those days by Scott Joplin, a black. He couldn't play his music elswhere since blacks were not allowed in places frequneted by whites. But there was some equality(!) in the brothels that did cross the colour bar.
The tune travelled through the white clients to the rest of america and the world.'
The tune came out in a new avatar, 'theme from Sting' from the film Sting. the present avatar, yet another, is my effort. i have added, bass, trumpet, vibraphone, and guitar. the original is in piano only...
- Jesus
Ms Maggie, a co hosteller, came in and said that she wanted to hear more of my computer music. After hearing the notes move on the screen, she asked.. "why not show me how you compose. Write a hymn..." I did it on screen & she was suitably impressed as the tune evolved...
This is a favourite hymn 'what a friend we have in jesus'. It is a favourite of all church goers. Compare it with Jagdisha.mid, both in piano. It is one of the first hymns that I played on the piano, in school. (sigh..) that was in 1957!
- Kahi_dur
This is a famous song from Anand with Kaka Rajesh Khanna acting as a cancer patient. 'Kahin dur jab din dhal jaye... - Mamta
This is another tune that has nothing to do with M. Kulkarneeeeee!
A song dripping with melodrama of the highest order. But, the film is fantastic 'see' for all. This tune as well as two other mujra songs kept one spell bound during the film, and, pulled one back to the theatre again and again. One excellently directed movie, and a tear jerker par excellence... - Dum_maro
This is that famous hit of the 'grass' root days of yore...
The Dev-Zeenat starrer with music by RD Burman was any day a super hit, what with Zeenat being the long lost sister of the hero, being traced to a hashish smokers' 'den' singing... 'dum maro dummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
'mit jaye gummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
'bolo subo shaaaaaaaaaaaaamm,
'hare krishna hare raaaaaamm.
(inhale man! inhale! let the blues fade away as you chant hare-krishna-hare-ram.)
- Sunil Raag
This is a composition by Sunil Agarwal, boss of Dassault International in India. He composed this when he was beginning his life in France in dire straits... - Sri 420
From Raj Kapoor's Sri 420... a hit of mid 50s.
Some one said jocularly that this song - mera jootha hai japani
yeh patloon inglisthani
ser pe laal topi roosi
phir bhi dil hai hindustani.
is very appropritate to be the theme song, summing up the gist of what we have achieved in the last FIFTY YEARS OF FREEDOM.!
- Baila
Baila is a ceylonese version of the carribean calypso..the erotic and ribald, yet poignantly singing about pains of human relationships and its joys. Baila is quite popular in Tamil Nadu. An all time hit. Sung frequently at drinking parties.

A surprise song from Geeta Dutt from the crime thriller, 12'O Clock with Guru Dutt, Johnny Walker, Wahida, and others of this gang. Of course, Nayyar saab is the music director. The dance accompanying the song is done by the inimitable Helen. circa 1956 - Alayamani This is a tamil song by P Susheela, the Lata of south. Music is by Vishwanathan-Ramamurthy duo. The bitter sweet song is actually sung by Savitry, the heroine, sitting on the nuptial bed. circa 1960
- Flood
Navneet Joneja wrote this tune 'single-handedly'. And I added my left hand to accompany the melody. Fine piece of originality by Navneet. - Palirkum
This is from a famous film 'paasa malar' which came as Nazrana in the hindi language. Lyrics by Kannadasan and music by the V & R duo. circa 1960 - Sunny1
Nayyar saab's tunes turn up more than they should. But one can't help if his music has that certain lilt which is infectious. 'Deevana hua baadal' is one of the best duets.circa 1960 - Jagdisha
